In a nut shell, Youichi’s being chased and gets rescued by an axe-swining Mr. Bear. At the hanahime den, Hayate’s being teased with a piece of cake, then grown-up Youichi shows up all brusied. Then they have a dangerous ablities type reunion thing, it’s kinda cute. xD

Back with the main group, when it looks like they’re about to be captured by lackeys, it turns out it’s just the Somatic Representative (forget his name) in disguise.

Then he tells them about what happened (I think) especially about Yuka and the high school principle, and there’s a panel with the teleporting keyhole door. And then our of nowhere, a bag of Alice stones appears alongside a note from Mikan’s mother.

She ends the letter with “Please, be safe” which makes Mikan cry. I don’t know what the rest of the letter says, but it’s probably something sweet. >w<

And then I'll quote Kiseki’s twitter. -w- “Am I reading this right? o A o Mikan now can absorb Alice stones, thus able to use their powers, right…? Wooow…”

So now Mikan’s going to save the day by being all-powerful? Not quite sure I like this concept, but let’s see how it develops. (I want more romance!)

Sable Prince by Nesumi Chisato; a shounen-esque shoujo, but it's actually the romance (?) that's holding me (normally I'd go for the plot more) :D

Sable Prince by Nesumi Chisato is being scanlated by Scarlet Carnival, and they recently finished volume 1. I’ve been following this for a while (since the second chapter, I believe) but didn’t really find a reason to blog it until this one. :3

The story is basically about an heir to the demon throne (Vilof) who is travelling alongside a “mysterious” companion (Pierre). Despite it being “shoujo” and not “shounen-ai” I honestly thought it’d be one of those subtle friendship mangas at the very least. (Okay I lied; Hetalia has corrupted me, I was kinda thinking shounen-ai…)

Was I ever wrong.

Eff yes! Knight/princess love, and I’m loving it. Uh yeah, he’s a guy with really long hair (he untied it to give the ribbon thing to his lady teehee).

I want to know their back story; forbidden loves are always interesting, so I’m looking forward to this one. Vilof won’t seem to care though, so I think things’ll work out (save me the typical shoujo drama of a girl caught between two guys, please). He says he’ll write her “another” letter, which means he’s in regular correspondence with her?

Makes you wonder though, whether or not Pierre has an ulterior motive. :/

Otherwise, so far it’s been a series of stories about their encounters with random villages etc., so I’m hoping everything will culminate in the second volume and that little flesh-eating girl will come back. I kinda liked her, she was fun.

Lapis Lazuli no Oukan by KAWASE Natsuna

This was licensed and published in English as The Lapis Lazuli Crown. I started reading this over a year ago, but the scanlating group dropped it and only recently were the remaining chapters uploaded, so I thought I might as well post a short review. :3

Before the series review, a note about the new category.【Spotlight】is where Kyfni (or one of her partners-in-crime) will review completed series, since there’s no point in creating a category for them when they aren’t going to be used again, right? So of course, spoilers abound. (:

【Lapiz Lazuli no Oukan】

I’m a fan of KAWASE Natsuna; except I’m not sure what it is exactly about her works that appeal to me. The art’s pretty average (cute, yes), and the plot isn’t deep or particularly unique, so it’s probably the magic. A lot of her series have some kind of sci-fi/fantasy element involved, which is arguably my favourite genre~

Radi and Miel; radi like 'radiant' and miel is French for 'honey'~

The protagonists of this story are Radi and Miel(/Mieru), a prince and the descendent of an aristocrat. In their world, they are two of a handful of people who can use magic (channelled via precious stones like Lapis Lazuli, also the national gem), but for one reason or another Radi never uses his magic publicly which causes a certain degree of mistrust from his subjects. His brother Citrona on the other hand (who is four years younger) has immense magical power, and it’s no secret that one of the highest ranking aristocrat families want him to control the crown’s barrier instead (the most important duty of their kingdom, since the crown has a lot of power sealed within it). The catch is, Citrona’s power is unstable;

That’s the basic plot, but I found that it wasn’t want struck my interest. I liked to read about the girl with unnatural strength, whose goal was to ’seduce the crown prince’ yet unknowingly met him on the street. She’s not a very good magic user, but her determination to enter the palace and help him was what drove the story forwards; and her enormous strength proved to be beneficial in relation to her magical capability.

It was cut a bit short due to an untimely ending, but it was wrapped up pretty nicely along with a few omake panels at the end of the volume. We probably could have benefited from a few more chapters, but again, it wasn’t the plot that held my attention in this case. The heroine was strong not only physically, and the hero was fun to follow. To be honest, their personalities were a bit bland, but it was nice to read something without the thousand servings of drama per chapter.

Happily ever afters are best, though I would've liked to see how Radi would have dealt with all the marriage proposals he predicted Miel would receive... :3

There are some side stories with her family and friends, and this guy who makes Radi jealous (teehee) but I loved the interaction between Miel and Radi the most. They’re just so… pure? Love was a theme, but it wasn’t a “love will conquer all” manga. I’m not really sure how to say it other than that, but it was fun watching Miel mature and Radi… well, be Radi.

The tone is mellow, and I’ll probably re-read this a couple of times. It’s memorable because it’s sweet, and the bits of humour are more adorable than funny. Also, I rather like Radi with long hair; he actually looks like he’s 18. xD

【Rating】8/10 ;; for being a refreshing read, and the magic gives it bonus points. ♦

The main character reminds me of a bunch of Hetalia nations… but he’s unique enough and I’m growing to like him. I like the tone of this manga, it’s so calm; and I’m really looking forward to the development of Seiji’s character. The introduction of nearly the whole cast (referring to the title spread) might have been a bit too much, but the chapter length was adequate and I think it really emphasizes their closeness on this island. ♥

Anything that uses Himaruya’s art is going to remind me of Hetalia ffff. Seiji kinda reminds me of Nihon, but the more I read the more I see he’s different. Such a cutie. >w< And he lives on Alfred's ahoge hurrhurr /yeahI'mgoingtomakealotofAPHreferences. Artist's block, don't I know that feeling too xD

Their interaction is really nice too because their contrasting personalities are evident~ maybe she’s the muse he’s looking for! Hope we’ll get to see more development, ’cause that would be lovely.

Oh gosh, the cuteness it KILLS. So sweet. ;w; Margaret’s such a sweetie lol. The easiest way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. 8D LOL I agree.

And I love that the diary is in English. Takes place here in America, so it makes sense yay~ I half expected it to be scribbled or in Japanese xD

I quickly merged the colour spread, and let me say this from an editor’s perspective: despite the two sides actually matching up, the quality was… atrocious to work with.

Still though, lovely chapter. Thanks to raw-paradise for the scans! Won’t even attempt to translate this time (except once…), much too wordy. Just cleaned up some scans to make this post sparkle.

We ended off last time with the news of Kaoru’s death, which visibly shocks everyone. I have never seen Natsume this sad ;~;

There’s a ton of dialogue next, between Yuka and who I suppose is some important figure in ‘Z’ but I’ll leave my analysis of that for after the scanlation comes out.

The bottom line though, is that Yuka is more determined than ever (probably to fix things and end the Elementary School Principal’s reign of… clones). Followed by a touching moment of YukaxShiki and flashbacks of everyone. >A<

I have a feeling that we probably won't see some of these faces for a while... >A<

Here’s the heartwarming moment of this chapter: following Tono’s lead, everyone gives Mikan their Alice stone to protect her. Aww~ and Natsume finally tells her (in his indirect way) that the Alice stone she received on her birthday was from him. s2 I love this scene!

Mikan gets a kiss from Tsubasa, no fair! Even if just a peck... anyways, they're all so sweet! Fwaah~ I honestly want more NatsumexMikan, so I hope he goes with her or something...!

Back at the High School Principal’s office, however… there’s nothing there except a mess of papers and broken glass. Pretty much official conclusion to the flashback arc.

They are so supportive, it's incredibly touching~ in contrast, the right scene is quite eerie...

These past few chapters have really portrayed the seriousness of their situation quite well; namely, that of children caught up in the affairs of adults. Maybe they’re a bit mature for their age, but to be honest, the fact that they’re 10-11 years old flies out of my head when I’m reading this (not necessarily a bad thing). I’m guessing that this exactly what Yuka feared: that their brief reunion would be their last. But if Yuka’s no longer here, then what about Mikan’s choice?

I’m not sure, but the scene doesn’t seem to be one where a major struggle occured. They either ran away, or they were captured; I’m doubting any deaths at the moment, but… welcome to the world of Alices. *shivers*

Next chapter out on December 5th; so far away! ;A;

My impressions/interpretation of the chapter, based on raws and minimal understanding of kanji. (I’ll probably revise the post when the actual scanlations come out.)

Disclaimer: I can’t read Japanese; I just wanted to edit the scans but empty speech bubbles don’t look nice– online translators are (kind of) my friends. Never mind that. I need to learn Japanese lol.

Woot! Only one speech bubble was totally off. That’s nothing to be proud of, but still! \^^/ Also, I just realized the ‘Hotaru’ page was part of a spread I would’ve loved to fix. Ah well, next time.

The whole gang watches on as Mikan continues to cry, having made her decision to leave the Academy with her mother just moments before. They all look pretty distressed as Hotaru smiles through her tears and talks to Mikan; likely words of encouragement and friendship. Yup, they’ll meet again because everyone believes in her. I LOVE THEM. Are they really just 10-11? The cheesiness I’m assuming only breaks my heart even more~

Mikan finally turns her attention on everyone else (being Tsubasa, Nodacchi, Tono, Nobara, Ruka and Natsume) and they’re pretty much all on the verge of tears– sympathizing and agreeing with her decision. Yes… even Natsume. He turns away, and she can only remember his words as they ran away; namely his wish to be strong enough to protect her.

We’re not free from the flashbacks yet, either; as hinted in a flashback earlier on, it’s Shiki who finds Yuka in the snow. Clearly, Yuka loves Mikan so, so much. Waaah why’d they have to part~? Even though I love Yukihara and Yuka, the feelings that Shiki has are just so sweet. s2 With the dialogue, his words to Yuka– so much sweeter. ;u;

The next part is pretty wordy, so I couldn’t follow it as well.

Yuka and Shiki are fighting against the Elementary School Principal, and it’s shown in a scene where she steals an Alice stone from who I suppose is a clone. Turns out they were pretty much invincible ’cause of their alices, as well as with Kaoru’s help. Woot! Nodacchi draws the attention back on Kaoru (Natsume’s mother) and soon afterwards, Shiki gives Yuka the dreadful news (the dreadful news was actually that the boss of “Z” was a clone of the Elementary School Principal; the result of this finding was seen in the series itself). Afterwards, Yuka pleads Shiki to tell senpai to stop involving herself with such dangerous matters because she has a family; and we see something that’s happening in time with current events: Kaoru was being chased on the road, and very likely got hit by a truck. I know the whole incident points to her death but… I think there’s some fragile hope in me that she survived somehow and has been in hiding all this time.

This should more or less complete the flashback arc; unless Tachibana has more surprises and revelations in store. To be honest, I wouldn’t mind; I like seeing how the past was like. Besides, it delays the farewell between Mikan and Natsume, right…? >A<

Though I'm wondering if it's just a mislead when Yuka says that she feels like she'll never see her daughter again back at the beginning of the flashback arc. Maybe it's more like... Mikan will be a different person, and regard her mother differently with her knowledge of the past? I'm going for the happy ending here-- her father's death was tragic enough already. ):

It’s the story of protagonist Sachi Kohaku, who has long, beautiful, amber-colored hair. She somehow becomes involved in Leon’s Money Game, and the story revolves around that. x)

First of all, the art. IT’S SO PRETTYYY. I love itttt. *A*
Sachi in general is adorable. >w< Her friends think Sachi’s hair is dyed, but it’s her real color, inherited from her mother. Oh and, they go to a school for kids of rich and privileged families. :’D

However, we find out that Sachi’s mother isn’t just far away, but she passed away when Sachi was little. ): Sachi currently lives with her uncle, who is her only relative, I think. However, despite her mother’s absence, Sachi always tries her best. \(^-^)/

Such a pretty scene, I want sleeping clothes like that. XD

The next morning, Sachi is on her way to class when she comes across a scene. A boy in an eyepatch demanding money from another boy. Sachi goes and tries to stop what she thinks is bullying.

xD The money flies everywhere, and Sachi thinks they’re gambling, but the eyepatch dude (whose name is Leon), tells her it’s something much higher status than that. The Money Game.

When he asks if she wants to join, Sachi slaps his hand away and goes to class, just barely making it before the bell. When she explains to her classmates why she was late, they all get scared when she mentions Leon. *gasp* He’s the richest one in the school, using his money to do what he wants.

She arrives home from school to find her residence an absolute mess. Furniture is broken, curtains are torn, vases are shattered. As she’s wondering what’s happened, in comes the apparent cause of the destruction– the yakuza (Japanese mafia). He fills her in, since she’s not aware. Her uncle’s company went bankrupt, he ran away, and sold Sachi to the yakuza to cover the debt of 100,000. So now the yakuza are here to take Sachi away.

She grabs a vase and hits the man who is trying to take her away, then runs, crying. Her uncle only took her in because he had to, not because he liked her or anything. “The only thing good about you is your amber-colored hair!” As she’s running, Sachi bumps into someone and something falls out of her pocket. It’s Leon’s information card about the Money Game. She reads it, and notices the prize– 100,000.

After she finds the location, she takes a trip down an elevator, and arrives at a huge room. Sitting behind a desk, there’s Leon, in all his creepy-eyepatch-ness. “I had a feeling you’d come.” She wants to enter the Money Game to get money, but there’s a join fee. She’s broke, and asks to borrow some, but Leon tells her no. She begs and tells him what’s happened, and he tells her a firm no, and throws a knife at her, getting tired of her begging. No money, she’s already the yakuza’s property, game over.

She picks the knife up and holds it close… “I’m sorry Mom.” You think she’s going to kill herself but instead…she chops off all her hair! HER BEAUTIFUL HAIR. ;A; Not all of it, but so much that she doesn’t even look like a girl anymore. Just a pretty-eyed boy. She offers this, and Leon accepts buys it for the fee, thus Sachi has entered the Money Game.

The chapter ends there, there’s pretty good development for just the first chapter. ^^ I really liked it, it’s not the normal shoujo with romance and fluffy and stuff. Well, it is categorized as drama, so it’s going to be interesting. >D

The confrontation between Manabe and Tsubasa leads to a recalling of “Arisa’s” forgotten past; namely, her secret.

It starts off with a cute flashback; she brings him orange jelly! And pesters him everyday. I think I’m growing really used to seeing ‘Arisa’ and Manabe together; if the pairing turned out to be Manabe x Tsubasa, I might think that it looks a bit awkward (more used to seeing Tsubasa x Takeru ^^).

After she tends to his injuries (like she used to do with her twin <3), she dumps a bunch of class pictures on him.

LOL KYFNI, Arisa is so stalker towards Manabe >D (But its the cute-I secretly-have-a-crush-on-you-kind(?) ) Agreed TakeruxTsuabasa and ManabexArisa = w = ftw

Awww she’s so cute~ Ehstalkerwhat? Actually, I could so see that in my head lol. xD Kukuku I don’t care who ends up with who, this series is good enough to me as it is. =w=b

At first, Manabe thinks that it’s a cute idea; help out the class without taking the credit. But since this is Arisa’s “secret”, when things go wrong and classmates are bullied, the only one he can blame is her.

I think that for many people, putting two and two together (Arisa’s secret coupled with the class’ secret) yielded something along the lines of Arisa = the King. And now, we have some slight proof but… I don’t want to believe it. I love plot twists~ more please. :D

I dont think Arisa is the king, I dont know about boyfriend-guy though, but I certainly dont hope its some totally new guy we’ve never seen before = w =;; And creepy eyes ftw please ukukuk.

Manabe claims that he will reveal to everyone her ’secret’. Unable to completely trust her twin (nyuuu), Tsubasa does some snooping; only to find a complete list of granted wishes in the “King Folder”.

A discussion between Midori and Mariko yields a lovestruck confession and… Mariko’s dark side. She rips off the charm that she and ‘Arisa’ share; by now it’s pretty clear that she knows the truth. ><

Tsubasa watches Arisa sadly, and I can’t imagine what must be going through her mind. :(

I have now concluded that Mariko is crazy, obsessed, downright creepy, and disturbing; someone get her some serious help. Quick. xDD

I really need to say that I don’t think Arisa is the King; first, I never really believed it anyways and I’m not sure how she’d grant the wish of returning herself… since she’s comatose. The fact that she has a complete list is slightly sketchy, but maybe she’s just the King’s secretary? Also, I doubt Mariko is the King because she’s more of the “accomplice” type. Manabe’s also been crossed out; of course, that only leaves Midori… but since he’s so oblivious and Mariko clearly does not think too highly of him, that’s even harder to believe.

Yay Manabe is innocent~~ \(^o^)/ Like I said, I still suspect Midori. It’s always the innocent ones. xD *has been watching too much CSI*

I’m still saying Takeru, because… well, where did he come from? Tsubasa is seen to be on hospital property still, and Takeru probably went to check Arisa’s room before looking elsewhere. It implies something, I think. And his surprise may very well have been feigned; it wouldn’t be too hard. Honestly, I hope we don’t find out any time soon; I don’t want this series to end. :3

Whoa that’s some nice speculation there Kyfni = w =, even I’m starting to think Takeru could be the king. Maybe Natsumi-sensei was trying to confuse us all when showing Midori as the king card in the chapter 4 cover? o u o Still Arisa is definetly related to king. Huhu so much mystery<3

Whoaaa. Lol. Takeru as the king would be epiccc~ I would not expect it, he’s so.. you know. xD Kekekeke… Although I must say imagining Takeru & Arisa in cahoots together just creeps me out more. Aah, the creepiness of this whole series just thrills me. <3

Announcement!

Fast forward a bit; it seems they’re pretty well-off. As Clone!Sakura cradles a baby (in a gigantic bed!), it seems that she overcame some hurdle but now everything’s okay. Clone love <3

Bed is huuugggeee. Scene is adorable, the grown clones look awesome. So cool. >w< And they have a kid~~ So cute. I need more synonyms for ‘cute’, gah. XD

I guess being ‘born again’ (I don’t remember the exact terminology) meant that they would retain all of their memories, but still life a relatively normal life, since the clones have parents. Clone!Sakura reveals that father and son look exactly alike; not only because of hereditary genetics, but also that this entire thing has been a cycle. Their son is the Syaoran who will leave on his journey to Clow Country and make his decision to try and save Sakura while being cloned in the process (and his parents–the clones–will forget about him and have Watanuki instead…?).

Wow, I didn’t understand any of it at all until Kyfni worded it. That’s… whoa. O___O Round and round we go, I guess, in the world of TRC. Trying to count all these Sakura & Syaorans make me so confused. @___@ But that’s some part of the story that makes it so much win. XD

Thinking about it kinda makes my head spin, but everything makes a lot more sense now. xD I kinda wish that CCS!Sakura and CCS!Syaoran had appeared, though. They’re made of original cute win. -^^-

The one thing I’m still curious about is “meeting the other Sakura”. I probably just have to re-read it, unless it hasn’t happened yet. A re-read is definitely pending. ♥

When this is all over, I plan to reread everything a couple times, then perhaps I won’t be so confused. xD

The student council is full of strange, quirky people with clashing personalities. One person in particular, Tsubaki Kiyoi (nicknamed Tsubakiyo), has a special talent that only one other person knows about– when she touches someone, she can access their thoughts and memories. But because of this talent, she is very introverted and damaged inside. Can she overcome her fear of coming in contact with other humans, and take control of her power?

The five members of the aforementioned "strongest student council". They all have special abilities! ;D

It starts off with the president angry with the complaints of the student body (since they mainly concern his idiocy haha). Cut to Kiyoi-chan, and we see a ghost? Nope, it’s just her being psychic and ruining a mushy, romantic atmosphere by claiming the girl was four-timing. Ftw. ^^

Nice. She looks so cool as a creepy psychic. xD Pffft, four-timing? Stupid girl.

It turns out that she’s one of the reasons why the student council is more or less hated; she tries to fix other people’s problems but they think she’s creepy. ): Seiji stops her by hitting her on the head with her own slipper; and the couple runs away while cursing the council. *sighs*

So, Kiyoi-chan can read minds when she touches people. She gets reprimended, since only the student council is aware of her ability (and her apathy is so cutee~!).

I really like Yuu-chan too, just saying. xD So Sumire won’t let them wander the Freshmen Welcoming Meeting without it; since most freshmen are scared of them. She’s so intimidating, haha. Well, Junta realizes that her main motive was to cover Kiyoi’s hands so she wouldn’t come into conact with anyone and read their minds. But…

Tsubakiyo is so adorable imo <333 (She kind of reminds me of Yuki Nagato ) And they’re both in crossdressing costumes >D

It was inevitable, really. And then... pandemonium. Also inevitable. ^^

One person thinks about killing someone (in the “I hate him. I’ll kill him.” way, but Kiyoi-chan doesn’t know the difference. xD) and someone else doesn’t feel well? So… she kidnaps them.

See, you can kidnap for good reasons too. =D *coughs* That girl must have some super strength to carry two people like it’s nothing. xD

Seiji eventually catches up with her, but the entire school is already QUITE mad at them and damn the council. Aww, he looks so dejected.

Seiji is so mad and blames it all on Kiyoi. So he expels her from the student council… don’t worry Kiyoi, he’s just… I was going to say PMS but that doesn’t work. But you know he doesn’t mean it D:

Kiyoi is sitting on the stairs, sad about her expulsion. The guy from the couple earlier on brushes past her, and… he’s going to kill himself by jumping off the school roof?!

She wants to save him even though she’s no longer on the student council; but her appearance kind of makes things worse since she gives off the opposite effect more often than not. xD

“It’s the perfect time for a useless death.” She means well, really~ x)

Anyways, she reads his mind and so she knows that there are people who would miss him, so she tells him to be there for them. But he’s too depressed to care, and claims that she doesn’t understand.

They both begin to fall… D:

From the very beginning, we see that Seiji just wants to resolve everyone’s problems and mind-reading would be a huge asset. Like a (literally) fallen angel, Kiyoi-chan appears~ and with a squee-deserving smile, he informs her that she’s needed. x)

It’s cute, really~ Seiji saves them both, and on the outside, the guy isn’t that happy. But in his mind, he thanks them for intervening with his suicide attempt.

He refuses to apologize, but wants her back. She's right, Seiji~ that IS apologizing. xD

Lol at the headbutt. Perfect way to end a very cute first chapter~ There’s nothing much to speculate, but I can’t wait until the next chapter to see more of their adventures. ^_^

Yes~ Tsubakiyo is adorable ^u^~ There’s not much to say except theres so much overload of cuteness >w< I think Hara Asumi can develop and eloborate a lot with this plot and the characters and I’m looking forward to it = w = b. And I said it a thousand times but TSUBAKI FTW~~~~<3

What I like most so far is that this is the kind of inevitable romance (so much inevitability~!) even though it’s not the dominanting theme. A lot of the time, I do like side-romances better; it’ll probably become more important later on but it’ll be quite interesting to see how it’ll develop. (:

It’s filled with cute, a tsundere male protagonist, an emotionless mind-reading heroine, pretty art, and comedy. If you don’t like it, you must really either be very picky or have no heart. (:
