Hello everyone, this post commemorates the grand opening of Kuchi-Makase! So all three of us will be reviewing 2 series; “Watashi ni xx Shinasai!” Chapter 1 by Ema Tooyama, and “Boyfriend” Chapters 1 & 2 by Daisy Yamada. Cafesuu’s reviews will be in sky blue text, Kyfni’s in turquiose, and Kagamin’s in purple. We color-coded it to make it easier to tell what each of us think when we collab-post. ;D

Warning, pretty much all of our reviews have spoilers. All our reviews are quite thorough as well, involving not only opinions and fangirling, but some sample scans as well~ We hope you enjoy reading everything, and we’d be very happy if you were to comment. This entry is more or less a trial run (organized chaos!) and we do plan to experiment with how we collaborate, so feedback (or fellow fangirlings) are very welcome~ ;DDD

Ahhh where to start, or rather I don’t know what to say >w<~~ I’m biased towards Ema Tooyama and NBM anyway, but the whole plot of the first chapter is…a nice surprise.

*Cough* Anyway, now we’ve got your average shoujo heroine Not this time~ Yukina is love, she’s cool, not those moeblob characters you usually get =w=;; cooldere~, Also she doesn’t get depressed easily either so determined =u=Y Her stereotype might be typical, “the ice-queen,” but still you dont see charcters like Yukina often anyway~ Her cold skin is an interesting feature too~ *YUKINA LOVE SPAZSM HERE*

Chapters 1 & 2

&. I was ecstatically waiting for this series just because it’s by Yamada Daisy. It honestly didn’t occur to me that the title suggested a totally cliche storyline; though honestly, I wouldn’t have minded. I loved GIri Koi and all her one-shots (that have been scanlated), so~ I was excessively excited about NBM picking it up. Like, jumping out of my chair hyper… xD

&. Chapter one, we see a pretty colour spread of the main characters; and referring to the title, it’s pretty obvious what’s going to happen. I first thought Hijiki was adorable when~ she ran away from the first-year in shyness. Then when Hourai caught the flower for her, kyaaaaa!!

I also love the atmosphere in the classroom; it’s such a contrast with ARISA. This is like… genuine, cutesy happiness. Hourai is interesting too; even though he’s the typical know-it-all who skips class, there’s something DIFFERENT. I don’t know exactly what, but Hijiki noticed it too~! (Though I’m not the one falling in love, so maybe that’s a bit of a weak argument. =P)

Out-of-the-ordinary concepts makes me a happy fangirl~ and the mystery behind Hijiki’s pills adds to my love for this series. Then I squealed when Hourai went after her~ and squealed some more because that last page was so adorable. ♥♥

The entire second chapter was adorable. We get to see tons of interaction between the two, and… \(^^)/ Nope, I can’t find the words to describe how I felt. (Awww, he’s watching her while writing their tests~ Hourai, keep your eyes on your own paper. ;D)

The mystery of this manga is very subtle, and it doesn’t get a lot of attention but… does Hijiki’s sickness (?) have anything to do with why she lives with her grandma now? And is it also why she hasn’t gone to school that much (before)? And finally: the ending of chapter two is just… So. Freaking. Cute.

&. I’m sure that this series only gets progressively adorable. I am biased, I know; but if you’re reading this, you probably love it as much as we do. =D

Chapter 1

&. I wouldn’t be able to review this chapter better than my partners-in-crime, to tell you the truth. Don’t get me wrong; I love this series. But… they like it a bit more, let’s just say (read: they’ve drawn fanart, I haven’t. What does that tell you? Other than the fact that I can’t draw, obviously ^^).

&. My first impressions: Yukina is a very unique protagonist, and her cousin Akira is total win (I want to see his eyes!). The first time I saw him, I swore Shigure had canines. I think it was just how the teeth were drawn, but I could totally imagine him like that! In any case, thanks to that mistake on my part, I concluded that he was a mischievous character (and hey, I was right! xD). I love the characters, and I love the plot. Enough said~

Yes! Another Ema Tooyama series! How I love her~ This one is entitled “Watashi ni xx Shinasai!” which when translated, means… “Do xx to me!” Lol. Before you get any bad thoughts, remember, this is published in Nakayoshi (aimed at girls 9-13). So don’t go off thinking anything dirty is going to happen. xD Here’s the summary:

In class, she’s a sort of zoned-out girl, and he’s the year one class’ most perfect, good-looking guy. But the two of them have a secret, and their extraordinary “love experience” will start now!

Okay, so it starts off with this loud teacher yelling at everyone about rules. Then he bumps into Yukina and yells at her too. And she just stares at him. And stares. And stares. And stares.

Her stare is like, piercing. It looks so cool though~ >w<

Then she touches his hand and he flinches away because she has cold skin. Then he goes away. Way to go, Yukina. Got rid of the noisy teacher so easily. xD Apparently she’s known as “The Absolute-Zero Snow Woman” because of her cold stare and freezing skin. So everyone is pretty much scared of her, but in reality… she just likes observing people. How cute. XD

This is such a win panel. Love her face, lol.

The only one who seems to be her friend (and knows what it is she actually likes doing) is her cousin, Akira. When you first see Akira, you don’t see his eyes. Akira so far is my favorite supporting character. ;D Why? Because he’s always eating. I love those characters who can eat endlessly and never gain any weight. xD

Well, turns out our beloved Yukina writes a cell phone novel under her pen name, Yupina. In my opinion, when characters have double identities, they are almost always uncreative with names. (Yukina – Yupina; Mew Ichigo – Momomiya Ichigo; Sara – Sala; etc. If they look/sound the same, people are bound to figure it out, right? Humans are smart…ish. =w= Except Yukina’s case is special, they don’t see or hear her, so I guess it’s okay. xD) Her novels are number one and most popular, and the reason she’s always observing people is… she’s looking for someone who is worthy to be a main character in what she writes. xD What a smart way to get inspiration. The next morning in class, the main guy comes in.

His name is Kitami Shigure, and he’s the most perfect guy in class (He’s cute, isn’t he? ;D). When he smiles, Yukina just turns and looks out the window, thinking, “He’s the only one that can’t be in my stories. He’s too boring.” ROFL. You’re so nice, Yukina. xD

That face she makes when she flinches also reminds me of the psycho girls in Higurashi… =w=

After the “Kitami is boring” thought, Yukina overhears some girls talking about her novels, and how they want there to be more love, more heart-racing moments. So then Yukina becomes determined to write about love… the thing is, she has no experience.

So she goes off to find out how to get experience, when she overhears Kitami being confessed to. (Which is not surprising, really.) He turns down the girl (also not surprising), then Yukina sees him scribble something down in his student notebook. How suspicious, Kitami. Tsk tsk.

Anyways, him & Yukina talk for a bit, then he gets called away by a teacher to do something. Upon his leaving, Yukina noticed he dropped something-his student notebook. She looks inside, and finds a shocking discovery. You think you know what it is? >D We’ll see, lol.

So then the scene cuts to Kitami looking for his lost student notebook–then Yukina comes in and shows him she has it. He smiles and says thanks, but Yukina confronts him about what he’s doing. He tries to get all the girls to confess to him, then when they do, he lists down when and where. And, our Yukina-chan was the only one left on the list. ;D

So it turns out the nice & popular Kitami Shigure likes getting girls to like him because he has nothing better to do. Fail on his part, win on Ema Tooyama’s part. I’ve never heard of such a situation, so points for uniqueness. >w<b So after they discuss it and all, Kitami grabs his notebook back, only to have Yukina throw copies of the book everywhere.

She copied all the pages in that book, and stored other copies elsewhere. Smart move, Yukina-chan~ A shocked Kitami asks what is it she wants with him, and the reply she gives is… epic.

Yukina’s personality just keeps getting better and better. How can she say such a thing without even blushing? xD However, Kitami blushing = <3~ He’s so cuteee~ >w<

So it goes on, and when they touch fingers, and Kitami finds out she has cold skin. But he holds her hand anyways, and her hand starts getting warm~ Yay! \^o^/ And the chapter ends with them still holding hands. x)

<— Review / Predictions —>
Yes~! Gosh I love Yukina. She’s so awesome~ WxxS looks like it will be a very interesting story. And once again, Ema Tooyama & her team have come up with a good story. This chapter was good for a first one-although I would have liked to see more about Yukina. Like for instance, her last name? Or her age? XD But we’ll see, maybe the next chapter will have a meet-the-characters page. And I hope Akira appears more~ I want to see his eyes, lol. Predicting… I don’t know, I think the more time Yukina will spend with Kitami, the more her skin will get warm. Or maybe her stare won’t be so freezing-scary anymore. It’s really too early to tell, but considering the plot of KNiY (how Sumino changed because of Hinata), this could probably similar to something like that. Idk, it could be completely different too. xD

Yayyy, NBM picked this up. How coincidential… some of us were talking about how we wanted to read it, and how it would be cool if NBM picked it up. And they did! Wheee~ I love Yamada Daisy’s art, it’s so cute~ I think the our heroine is uber-adorable, ahahaha. Summary:

Hijiki (a girl with an unusual name) has just entered a new school, and on the way there she encounters a mysterious boy alongside a beautiful lake. Hijiki has some secrets of her own, and will this boy be able to listen to her silent pleas for help…?

Sounds interesting, don’t you think? Onto to the storyline…

<— Chapter One Storyline —>
The chapter starts off with a pretty color page. x) Our heroine, Tachibana Hijiki, has just begun the year in a new school. Hijiki gets mistaken for a first year (when she’s actually second), and runs away, getting herself lost. She sees the school, but it’s at the top of this steep hill. Seeing no road, she climbs the hill anyways. Getting to the stop, she gets this spectacular view.

Then, her first encounter with the main guy of the story…

Ooo Hijiki looks cute in that pose =w=b. (I’m lazy and don’t want to write my own review so I’ll just comment under Kagamin’s screenshots)

Upon asking him where the main entrance is, she finds him gone. xD So she finds it by herself, and goes to her class. Surprisingly, she’s quite enthusiastic when introducing herself. I couldn’t do something like that no matter how hard I’d try. xD And the class itself is very friendly, so yay. (: She sees the guy she met earlier, who we find out is Hourai Utsugi. She tries talking to him and thanking him, but he just keeps quiet. Unsocial, much?

It’s ok Kagamin, unsocial is what makes Hijiki feel so attracteddd~ =w=.

The first encounter

People keep confusing her name with other types of seaweeds, lol.
And this Yuu person gives me the kirakira feeling when he smiles, ahaha. He’s so nice to Hijiki.

Hijiki sees Hourai isn’t exactly interested in class, and hears people badmouthing him, so she becomes confused. She goes to Yuu and asks about Hourai, and finds out he’s a genius, but has a scary glare and is unsocial. During the next class, she gets paired up with him, and is actually happy about that fact. She wants a chance to talk with him and try to be his friend. How cute. >w< Too bad he’s really cold though, and just walks out. She follows him, and he tells her just to write some lies about him. She refuses, and he responds with this.

Every shoujo, has a stalker one way or another =u=b.  But I would be lying if I didn’t say that it’s kinda typical that Hijiki wanted to get closer to Hourai, the cold unsocial dude.  Ahh but it’s still adorable how  Hijiki wants to be friendly with everybody >w <

And in a truly shoujo-esque kind of way, she believes that he’s not that cold/unsocial. But how does Yamada Daisy make this situation so much more adorableee~?

I didn’t really get why she reacted in such a way until I read later in the chapter.

Well so she goes up to do the presentation by herself, poor Hijiki. She gets all nervous, naturally, but it’s over pretty quick. You can tell something isn’t right with her though, especically since it looks like she’s shaking. And Hourai seems to notice this too. >D After class, she goes and takes a bathroom break. The class notices she’s been gone for a long time… Hijiki herself is looking for a place with no people, but why?

Now Hourai’s getting some intrest >D~

It seems she’s on medication. She probably has some sort of condition, oh no. D: Feeling too tired to go back to class, she decides to go home. But she dosen’t—Hourai comes in and tells her she should go back to class. Personally I think that smile he made was creeeppyyyy. XD

Poor Hijiki ;^;, I found myself thinking for a long-long-long-long time with what her sickness is, when I realized oops, they haven’t even revealed it yet =u=;;;

See, creepiness, right?! XDD

When she refuses, her picks her up and throws her over his shoulder.

…one creeper smile on MSN is enough, mkay? ^^

That face she makes totally reminds me of those crazy girls in Higurashi. =w=;;;

LMAO HIGURASHI EYES <3333333333333333 When you has made me realize that, Kagamin, Boyfriend/Hijiki love has increased.

Then, you finally understand why she had such a weird reaction earlier, when he said to “pass it off without lying”.

So she lies alot, hmm?
And so the chapter ends with him carrying her back to class… >w<

<— Review / Speculations —>
Yay, what a good first chapter. Makes you want to read more… I really want to know why Hijiki has to take medicine. We’ll probably find that out later~ Soon, hopefully. It’s just the first chapter, you usually can’t fit everything about a character in one, so I should just be patient. =w= And I also want to know why this series is called Boyfriend. Kekekeke…. ;D

It’s called boyfriend ’cause Hijiki and Hourai are gonna start dating, get married and have a honeymoon at Suuslavia, where I’ll be waiting for them.

So previously, we found out alot of things about our heroine the last chapter. What shall we find out in chapter 2~?
<— Chapter One Storyline —>
So, the chapter begins where the last one left off. At Hourai carrying Hijiki back to class~ He carries & picks her up roughly, but he sets her down very gently. How sweet. >w<

So cute. >w<

Anyways, she gets back into class and it turns out everyone was worried about her. What good people. (x And Yuu starts calling her “Mozuku-chan” as a nickname. I swear this story just screams cute. xD

Hourai’s a nice guy =w=b usually.  Well the adorableness of this manga is A LOT for me espcially because of Yamada Daisy’s style~

And the kirakira is back… xD

LOVE TRIANGLE = – =.

So the class resumes, and Hijiki takes her seat. But, it turns out since she was absent alot from school before, she dosen’t understand any of the problems. D: And she dosen’t want to ask anyone, because she’s scared they’ll find out & make fun of her. So she goes to the library and studies. And guess who also happens to be at the library…

Hijiki seems overly-concious.. I think thats one of the symptoms of her sickness perhaps.

It probably is, indirectly. If her sickness was the reason why she didn’t attend school all that much before, she’s probably more introverted than the others (look at how she ran away at the beginning of the first chapter). But she has Hourai~~ ;D

Poor Hijiki studies so hard, but she still dosen’t get any of it. I feel so bad for her. D: Still wanting to study, she goes and tries to find another reference book, but can’t find one that she understands.

I’d say good luck to Hijiki, but apparently she doesn’t need it ;D

So she sits by the bookcase, crying. And Hourai shows up, which she isn’t so happy about, given she’s crying and he’s just giving her this cold look. So he tells her, “You’re in my way.” Hijiki gets up to move, but bumps into him and all her math work goes all over the floor. So, now he knows why she’s crying…

It’s okay Hijiki, I’ve cried too before because I couldn’t understand algebra. :’D

Hijiki is so tsun-deredere~

So, she dosen’t respond to his question and just walks away to the desk. He follows her and sits at the table behind her. So she’s still trying to figure out math, and apparently she talks to herself while doing it. (I do this too rofl) When she answers the question wrong [out loud], he answers it correctly. They quarell a bit about who’s making who angry, then Hourai goes over and teaches her how to do it, tee hee. Then….

Wahhh he’s so cute when he laughs. >w<

She finally understood, and he laughed! I love the expression he made though when she bonked him on the chin. xD So they continue some tutoring more, then both head home. Hijiki re-studies a little bit, and remembers Hourai, then blushes. Nyahahaha.

They’ve already fallen in love =w=b And I found it more adorable when Hijiki understood the problem >w<

I wish I could just glomp Hijiki right now. >w<

Chibi Hijiki is cute~

The day of the test comes, and Hijiki feels confident in herself, since she recognizes how to do most the problems. So when they get the results back, the teacher says the average score was 65. Thanks to Hourai’s tutoring, she got better than that.

From the other students’ faces, they look like they didn’t do as well as she did. xD

Or maybe, Hijiki’s too happy at a non great score lol =w=. ( But its good enough >U< )

Upon hearing Hijiki’s score, Hourai smiles and leaves quietly. When Hijiki finds out he left, she goes to find him so she can thank him. After looking for a while, she finds him where the first met before, the hillside with the spectacular view. But, when she thanks him, he says…

I wonder what he means by that. ;D

Lol whos giving/having dirty thoughts now? >D

And I am staying out of this ._.

So Hijiki gets flustered and turns away. She begins to talk to him again, but when he turns to look at her, she finds she can’t meet his eyes. He smiles and says “You’re welcome.” Hijiki becomes extremely happy she changed schools, because…

And that’s how the chapter ends. It’s so cuuutteeee~~!! >w<

<— Review / Speculations —>
This chapter was adorable, Hijiki got more interaction with Hourai, yayyyy~ ;D Didn’t find out much about her except she wasn’t in school alot. I wonder what Hourai meant when he said “You didn’t just come to thank me, did you?” I mean, it could go two ways. It could be the I-know-you-came-here-for-other-reasons-so-don’t-bother-lying kind of question, or the Aww-that’s-all-you-came-here-for-darn-it questions. When you imagine it, it depends on how he says it. Gahh nevermind I’m just stuck in fantasies. XD

Yeaaah, I love their interactions. Hijiki’s so cute-happy and Hourai’s so coldly-nice~ wheee. I’m not sure what he meant either, but by the end it’s pretty clear that he believes in her too (the she doesn’t lie / try to get close to him kind of thing). ♥
